After a few days of shrugging doctors finally decided Dan’s issue with his right leg was a hematoma, bleeding inside his leg, likely due to his blood thinners.

The hematoma could clear on its own, which takes 3-4 weeks, if the bleeding stops. We're not sure it has, yet. The blood thinner use stopped once they figured out what this was, but now we have to worry about the tumor/clot.

If the bleeding hasn't stopped, he might have to endure a Fasciotomy, which I would link to but I just googled it and it just made me throw up in my mouth a little bit, so you'll have to do that yourself.

He's also wearing this contraption on his left leg that makes a lot of noise and squeezes his leg with a giant cuff and is supposed to prevent DVT, Deep Vein Thrombosis (blood clots).

So.

For those doing the math:

One leg in this DVT cuff + one leg swollen and in pain x Skeksis roommate = unhappy Dan.

Also, he's t-minus four days from a vascular surgery that, SURPRISE, will probably be delayed.

He had a surprise-ish visit from some Calgarian friends, thank you guys!, who showed up wish sushi. Lots of visits from mom and dad and sister and bro-in-law and nephew and his girls and me. And lots of visits from the lady that likes to poke him and wake him up in the middle of the night to force more blood into his body.

For those wondering (or for those wanting to send those basket of puppies), he's at Royal Columbian Hospital (where parking STILL SUCKS AND THEY'RE STILL WORKING ON THE SAME F**KING CONSTRUCTION) in 4South, Room 404 (Error Not Found).

The Story So Far...

Fuck Cancer. On May 17, Dan was diagnosed with Renal Cell Carcinoma. Routine bloodwork and a check up of a persistent cough led to Dan learning he was anemic. As his family doctor put it, "super anemic. I'm surprised you can function at all." Thankfully, the doctor didn't just leave it at "here's some iron supplements," and sent Dan for a chest X-ray and an ultrasound. The ultrasound led to a CT Scan on May 16, which led to emergency phone calls mid-movie, an asap appointment May 17, and the diagnoses of kidney cancer. On May 19, the first specialist Dan saw, a urologist, better explained what was happening. Dan has an 11cm cancerous tumor on his right kidney, growing through a renal vein and into the inferior vena cava, growing as a thrombus  up toward his heart. It has also begun to metastasize to his liver. Surgery is the first and only option at this point. Surgery will include a hepatobiliary specialist (liver), urologist (kidney), a cardi...
