A Way To Help ... Food!

Tricia, Dan's sister, has set up an account at Meal Train for Dan and Maggie and the girls. Through Meal Train, those that are local to Dan and Maggie can choose a specific night to bring by food to help them out.

Of course, if you're not local to the Metro Vancouver area, there are ways around this!

UPDATE: Dan and Maggie have received A LOT of Mamaluv so far - so...perhaps consider other options, just so they don't get loved out by Mama.

Mamaluv: You can still block off a night on Meal Train, and then choose to send the food via Mamaluv. Choose the meal(s) from the website and send the gift card direct via email to Maggie and Dan (use maggie.dumo@gmail.com). They use the gift card to select the meal and it gets delivered to their door!

Real Meals: Another local site where Maggie and Dan can order food based on the gift card you have sent to them via email. It also gets delivered to their door. Again, a night can be booked off on the Meal Train website.

Others have sent money direct for the family to use on delivery or grocery shopping or other necessities, and a few have chosen to do Visa/Mastercard Gift cards. There will be an online Fund beginning soon, which is yet another way to donate to the family, but will be focused more on after care needs for Dan during his recovery.

Any and all help is appreciated.

If none of this is up your alley you can always check in with us to see how we're doing and what we might be looking for that's not food or cash donation ... be that child minding, a visit with coffee and tea, a trip to the movies, or, well, Dan does love his pedicures.

Much love,
The Dumo's

The Story So Far...

Fuck Cancer. On May 17, Dan was diagnosed with Renal Cell Carcinoma. Routine bloodwork and a check up of a persistent cough led to Dan learning he was anemic. As his family doctor put it, "super anemic. I'm surprised you can function at all." Thankfully, the doctor didn't just leave it at "here's some iron supplements," and sent Dan for a chest X-ray and an ultrasound. The ultrasound led to a CT Scan on May 16, which led to emergency phone calls mid-movie, an asap appointment May 17, and the diagnoses of kidney cancer. On May 19, the first specialist Dan saw, a urologist, better explained what was happening. Dan has an 11cm cancerous tumor on his right kidney, growing through a renal vein and into the inferior vena cava, growing as a thrombus  up toward his heart. It has also begun to metastasize to his liver. Surgery is the first and only option at this point. Surgery will include a hepatobiliary specialist (liver), urologist (kidney), a cardi...
